Greg Bowes sued the man on her behalf. A jury, however, awarded damages in favor of the man. When Greg appealed the case, the Indiana Court of Appeals agreed that the trial had not been conducted fairly. See Henri v. Curto, 891 N.E.2d 135 (Ind. Ct. App. 2008) (vacated by 908 N.E.2d 196 (Ind. 2009)), found at http://www.in.gov/judiciary/opinions/pdf/07310801par.pdf; video of oral argument found at http://tinyurl.com/r99cvo. When the defendant took the case to the Indiana Supreme Court, Greg argued unsuccessfully to have a new trial ordered. See Henri v. Curto, 908 N.E.2d 196 (Ind. 2009), found at http://www.in.gov/judiciary/opinions/pdf/06170901bd.pdf; oral argument found at http://tinyurl.com/ot9ykt.
On April 17, 2004, Donnie Turner's drunken neighbor came to his back yard, pointed a handgun at him and fired. The bullet shot through his chest, puncturing his lung. Donnie spent three weeks in intensive care. Greg Bowes brought suit against the shooter, and ultimately persuaded a jury to award a judgment that included punitive damages. Greg also brought suit against the man who sold the handgun to the shooter, a known drunkard, and eventually negotiated a settlement of that claim.
On December 5, 2001, a soccer referee was attacked by a player after a soccer match. Greg Bowes brought suit against the player and negotiated a settlement. See this WTHR Report.
In the 1960s, Teri Lee spent her childhood years in an orphanage in Porter County, Indiana. During that time, an adult houseparent raped her dozens of times. In 1994, Greg Bowes took over her case from another attorney. For the next seven years, Greg pursued the claim through the court system, taking the case all the way to the Indiana Supreme Court. See Doe v. Shults-Lewis Child & Family Services, Inc., 718 N.E.2d 738 (Ind. 1999), found at http://www.state.in.us/judiciary/opinions/archive/10089904.mcs.html. Greg's work resulted in a negotiated settlement that included a public apology.
A practicing attorney since 1985, Greg Bowes has represented over 500 clients in the areas of criminal defense, personal injury, including intentional torts, appellate advocacy, trademark enforcement, and civil litigation. He has served as lead counsel on over 25 jury trials and has pursued over 85 appeals before the Indiana Court of Appeals, the Indiana Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, and even the United States Supreme Court.
